Why repair matters
The clothing industry is one of the most polluting on Earth. Repair isn't just a nice idea โ it's one of the most direct things you can do.
92M
tonnes of textile waste produced globally each year
3,000L
of water to produce a single pair of jeans
10%
of global carbon emissions come from the fashion industry
ยฃ140
worth of clothing thrown away per UK household annually
The problem
Fast fashion has trained us to treat clothes as disposable. A ยฃ15 top is discarded after a season. A suit worn twice ends up in landfill. Globally, we're producing more clothing than ever โ and throwing more away than ever.
The UK sends 300,000 tonnes of clothing to landfill every year. Synthetic fabrics take hundreds of years to break down, releasing microplastics throughout.
A generation ago, repairing clothes was normal. Today, the skills are rarer and finding someone to do it is harder. Prices have risen, and the effort involved has pushed people toward the easier option: buy new.
AMENDABLES exists to close that gap. We make repair as easy as ordering a takeaway โ while keeping the quality high and the craftspeople fairly paid.
Our approach
The average garment is worn only 7โ10 times before being discarded. Repairing a single item extends its life by years โ reducing the carbon, water, and waste locked into its production.
AMENDABLES repairs are done locally โ not shipped overseas. Working with craftspeople in Aberdeen and nearby areas means fewer transport miles and stronger local economies.
We believe in keeping clothes alive longer, not replacing them faster. Every AMENDABLES repair is an act of resistance against the throwaway culture that is costing the planet.
Our craftspeople repair to a professional standard. We'd rather do the job properly once than have you back in three months. Longevity is the most sustainable choice.
Our commitments
We keep garments in use for as long as possible. Repair is the first and most powerful step in a circular approach to fashion.
We're building tools to show you the estimated COโ saved per repair. Right now, a typical repair saves between 2โ15 kg COโe compared to buying new.
We won't put a number on our total impact unless we can verify it. Repair is genuinely good for the planet โ we don't need to inflate the claim.
Craftspeople keep 67% of every job. Sustainable fashion has to mean sustainable livelihoods too โ for the people doing the skilled work.
Start a repair today and keep your wardrobe โ and the planet โ in better shape.
